A War of Spirit Transcript

Note: I am focusing on the dialogue, and as such will not be transcribing the battle objectives and such as they appear in the game. This map has seven playable characters, but most don't change the dialogue from when you play as Link. The exceptions to this rule are Sheik and Zelda; if you play as either of them, then Ruto will take over as allied commander, and dialogue will reflect this. In addition, a minor change is that, if you play as Lana, Ruto will be the one to rush to Link's side after the first Dark Link appears. The dialogue does not change from when Lana is the one to do so, however. The last minor change is that, if you play as someone other than Link, you'll get ordered to keep him safe by either Ruto or Zelda.

TRANSCRIPT BEGINNING CUTSCENE

NARRATION: At long last, Link took up the Master Sword and proved himself the Hero of Legend. Armed as he was with the blade of evil's bane, Link easily dispatched the newly revived Wizzro. The evil magician's parting words in their ears, Link and his allies set out to confront Cia at the Temple of Souls.

NARRATION: With a string of victories behind them, the Hyrulean army's morale had improved remarkably. Even Link began to feel that he was invincible while the Master Sword was in his hands. Soon he was allowing overconfidence to cloud his judgment, rushing headlong into hordes of enemies. Cia had been waiting for Link to overextend himself, giving her a chance to strike.

NARRATION: And as the two sides battled, unknown eyes watched from the shadows...

TRANSCRIPT BATTLE (LINK)

PROXI: Hey, Link, let's slice through these enemies quick! It'll be easy with the Master Sword!

IMPA: Link may be too overconfident... I pray he doesn't become reckless...

CIA: Oh ho! Link! Did you find a shiny, new sword? Mmm. I'd like to see it... Come to me!

LANA: There should be three Magic Keeps in the east and three in the west...

ZELDA: I can sense the Magic Keeps as well. We must capture them immediately!

[ReDead Knights appear from the Magic Keeps with boosted morale. They begin to advance toward Zelda.]

ZELDA: The Magic Keeps are spawning strong enemies! We must do something!

DARUNIA: Whoa! The enemies we're facing have a lot more power than we're used to!

IMPA: This situation grows worse with each passing moment. We must capture those keeps!

[After a short pause.]

???: Ha... The Triforce is drawing nearer...

ZELDA: How odd... I can feel an eerie presence coming from somewhere in this area...

IMPA: An eerie presence? I feel only the aura given off by the witch and her monsters.

[Zelda has sensed an overwhelmingly evil presence.]

[After capturing a Magic Keep.]

ZELDA: I was right... We must capture the Magic Keeps to break the connection and weaken the magic!

LANA: That should stop some of the enemies, but we've got to capture more Magic Keeps!

MIDNA: The order we capture the keeps in may change how quickly the flow of magic is severed!

[Keep Saboteurs appear.]

CIA: Go, my minions! Reclaim the Magic Keeps and reestablish their connection!

CIA: Take the Magic Keeps all you like. We'll just keep taking them back!

[After severing the flow of magic between the eastern Magic Keeps.]

ZELDA: The east is free of magic! We must focus our efforts on the western Magic Keeps!

FI: The Magic Keeps are proving a real challenge in this battle. We must capture them.

[After severing the connection between both the eastern and western Magic Keeps.]

FI: Master, the magic pathways have all been severed.

ZELDA: The Magic Keeps are ours again! That should cut their connection!

[A few minutes after the battle starts, the Sorceress's Room opens.]

CIA: Link, stop wasting your time with petty brawls! Show me what that sword can do...

PROXI: Link, the doors have opened and Cia is inside! This is it! Let's take her down! Swish-swosh!

[After reaching the Sorceress's Room, a cutscene starts. Link faces down several bokoblins with a cocky grin, cutting them down effortlessly. The bokoblins begin to take a step back, scared. Link arrogantly twirls the Master Sword in his hand. Cia appears behind him in a puff of purple smoke.

CIA: A sword is just a tool for the weak to swing around. Only fools and men put confidence in them.

CIA: Arrogance... Ego... Pridefulness... This darkness nurtured within you... shall be your undoing!

[Cia fires a dark magic blast at Link, who doubles over, holding his chest. After a moment, he begins to straighten out, looking confused at the hand he clutched his chest with. Behind him, his shadow grows and stretches, and Dark Link rises from it. Link looks back in shock and readies himself for a fight. The cutscene ends.]

CIA: I can see the darkness in your heart... but can you overcome it? Don't disappoint me, love!

PROXI: Oh no, Link. I shouldn't have egged you on! Don't let this imposter get you!

IMPA: We must not leave Link to fend for himself! Hurry! Before he's defeated!

LANA: She's using the darkness in his heart against him... There must be something we can do!

[Lana rushes to Link's side.]

[After beating Dark Link.]

PROXI: We did it! We beat back Dark Link!

[More Dark Links appear.]

ZELDA: More Dark Links have appeared? We must stop them!

FI: Four evil versions of Link have appeared. We should dispatch them immediately.

DARUNIA: Four of them?! Uh-oh. You're in some deep gravel now...

[Ganondorf's entrance cutscene plays, and Ganondorf's Forces appear.]

GANONDORF: Let them wear themselves out... Then the Triforce will be MINE!

GORON CAPTAIN: Uh-oh! Uh-oh! More enemies are appearing!

[Zelda begins to retreat toward the palace interior.]

ZELDA: We'll be annihilated... All troops, retreat! Fall back immediately!

MIDNA: We've got to fall back! C'mon, the rose garden in the west should make for a good getaway!

IMPA: Quickly! Everyone, escape through the rose garden in the west!

[After defeating the Dark Links.]

MIDNA: There. That should take care of all those pesky Dark Links.

[Dark Links reappear.]

IMPA: It revived itself. How can we help Link against an enemy that can't be killed?

ZELDA: The Dark Links are being revived in the Sorceress's Room. We must capture it!

PROXI: Link! You have to defeat all those Dark Links. Otherwise no one else can escape!

[After Link arrives in the Sorceress's Room once more, the doors close, trapping him inside with one or two Dark Links (depending on difficulty level).]

ZELDA: Link! Choose your battles carefully!

LANA: Link... wait! I'm coming too!

MIDNA: You always have to be the hero, huh?

[After defeating the Dark Link(s), three more appear. A cutscene starts. The Dark Links begin to corner Link, attacking him with a jump strike. Before it can land, however, a magic barrier appears in a blinding flash of light, protecting Link. Lana materializes in front of Link.]

LANA: Stand firm, Link!

[The Dark Links get up and power up their swords. Lana and Link brace themselves for their strike, but before it can land, it's blocked by Darunia and Midna on one side, and Impa and Fi on the other. Link looks around at his friends, gathered around him.]

IMPA: Real strength only comes from knowing your weaknesses!

[Link looks around at his friends, who smile at him, and steels himself, determined. The Master Sword begins to glow, and Link raises it up toward the sky, surrounded by his friends. The cutscene ends.]

[The Sorceress's Room opens. Cia summons a great number of monsters.]

CIA: If I can no longer pull from the darkness in Link's heart, then I'll pull from my own!

LANA: Cia, stop it! You're working with magic that no one can contain!

CIA: Silence! I won't be lectured by a happy little goody-goody like you!

[This retreats from the battlefield, though her forces stay.]

[After defeating all Dark Links.]

FI: Master, all Dark Links have been permanently eliminated. Well done!

IMPA: The Master Sword is radiating so much power... Link, are you doing this?

LANA: The Master Sword's true power must be awakening!

ZELDA: Link appears to be unscathed... Everyone, we must make a hasty retreat!

LANA: OK, fall back! We can escape through the western rose garden!

GANONDORF: Ha ha ha... Did you think I'd let you run?

[Ganondorf summons a Skilled Summoner.]

MIDNA: This is NOT good... I'll go on ahead and guide everyone to the escape point!

[Midna teleports to the South Wester Magic Keep.]

FI: Midna has begun leading us to safety. We should follow her!

[Ganondorf begins to advance toward Zelda.]

IMPA: Princess Zelda is in trouble! Everyone, go on ahead! I'll rescue her myself!

ZELDA: Impa! My safety is not your priority! I order you to retreat along with the others!

IMPA: M'lady... I understand. Be well without me.

[Midna has teleported to the West Garden.]

MIDNA: Everyone, listen up! I've found our point of escape! Just get to me and you'll be safe!

[Ganondorf closes in on Zelda.]

ZELDA: By the goddesses... This power... It... My body refuses to move!

PROXI: Link, time to return that favor and protect your friends from evil! Smite him! Smite him good!

[Win condition from hereon out is to defeat Ganondorf. Your allies will make their way toward the West Garden and leave one by one. Midna leaves last.]

[If everyone has left except Darunia, who is the default second player character.]

MIDNA: Everyone else got away! You've got to get away too!

[If Zelda's health depletes by half while fighting Ganondorf.]

ZELDA: Nnh--! It's no use!

GANONDORF: Such a pity... Let me free you from the misery of this world...

[If Zelda's health falls lower while fighting Ganondorf.]

ZELDA: This is far worse than I could have ever imagined...

GANONDORF: Ha ha ha... How dismally depressing... Would you care to struggle further?

[After defeating Ganondorf, the battle ends.]

ZELDA: I thank you for your courage. You saved me from a terrible fate!

GANONDORF: You dare raise the blade of evil's bane to me? So be it. Hyrule's blood will be on your hands.

[Mission: Keep Link safe.]

RUTO: We can't win this without Link... Don't let him out of your sight!

[After a short pause.]

???: Ha... The Triforce is drawing nearer...

RUTO: What's this? I sense a strange presence somewhere around here...

IMPA: An eerie presence? I feel only the aura given off by the witch and her monsters.

[Despite Ruto being the one to mention it, the game still says 'Zelda has sensed an overwhelmingly evil presence'. Presumably, this is an oversight.]

[After capturing a Magic Keep.]

RUTO: I knew it! Capturing a Magic Keep severs its connection to the rest of its group of keeps!

LANA: That should stop some of the enemies, but we've got to capture more Magic Keeps!

MIDNA: The order we capture the keeps in may change how quickly the flow of magic is severed!

[A few minutes after the battle starts, the Sorceress's Room opens.]
