Note: I am focusing on the dialogue, and as such will not be transcribing the battle objectives and such as they appear in the game. I'm also having a bit of fun with this don't take it too serious.

DRAMATIS PERSONAE

LINKLE: The legendary hero. Totally.

SKULL KID: Mischievous imp out to case problems on purpose.

TRANSCRIPT OPENING CUTSCENES

[3D Cutscene. Linkle wakes up in her house. Two villagers call for her from outside; she goes to meet them.]

LINKLE: Hmm...

VILLAGER: Hey, Linkle! Have you heard? Hyrule Castle is beset by monsters!

LINKLE: What?! Really?!

VILLAGER: Princess Zelda herself is fighting, but it's not doing much good. If those monsters make it here...

[Linkle rushes inside, opening up a chest in her house containing a green tunic and a compass. She puts on the tunic and compass and straps on her crossbows, then confidently walks outside, drawing the villagers' attention.]

VILLAGER: Hey, what's with the getup?

LINKLE: Isn't it obvious? I'm joining the battle and stopping those monsters! My grandmother always told me that, secretly, I was the legendary hero!

VILLAGER: But, everyone's grandmother says that...

[Linkle shows her compass, which bears the crest of the Hyrulean Royal Family.]

LINKLE: See this compass? My grandma gave this to me. It's a MAGIC compass. Proof! Now if you'll excuse me, I have a castle to protect.

[Linkle runs off. The villagers look at each other and shrug in disbelief. Linkle reaches a crossroads and, after a moment of hesitation, goes right. The camera pans out to show a sign saying the way to Hyrule Castle was left.]

[3D Cutscene ends. 2D Cutscene begins, showing the map of Hyrule.]

NARRATION: There once was a girl who lived in a small village. She led a simple life, tending to her flock of cuccos. Her name was Linkle. For as long as she could remember, Linkle had believed in her heart that she was the Hero reborn. One day, terrible news arrived at her village. Monsters had laid siege to Hyrule Castle. Linkle caught word of the monsters' attack and immediately began preparations. She dressed the part in her green tunic. Equipped with her trusty crossbows and the ancient compass her grandmother had bestowed on her, Linkle set out from the village. The treasured compass and a crude map were all she had to guide her way to Hyrule Castle. In no time at all, she found herself lost in a malevolent forest. An imp in a curious mask appeared out of nowhere and stole Linkle's precious compass. That compass, she knew, was proof of her destiny. She had to get it back! And thus began Linkle's first true trial.

TRANSCRIPT BATTLE

SKULL KID: I wonder if you have something nice on you... Oh! What a pretty compass! Let me borrow it!

LINKLE: No! I need that! Oh, wow, and there are so many monsters... but I have to get it back!

[Brown cuccos appear and start attacking the monsters. Linkle's forces are made up out of cuccos.]

LINKLE: Even the Cuccos are helping! OK, then that means I HAVE to do this!

SKULL KID: Oh, come now... Do you really think you can beat me as I am now? Fool!

[Skull Kid teleports to the Eastern Tree.]

SKULL KID: Hey, you! Catch me if you can!

LINKLE: That kid from earlier is already here?! He's fast... I don't think I can catch him!

SKULL KID: All these monsters work for me! Why don't you play with them for a while? Hee hee!

[Monsters start heading to the Allied Base (manned by cuccos). Skull Kid teleports to the North Square.]

SKULL KID: If you want your precious compass back, then you'll have to take it back!

[Linkle makes her way to the North Gate, only to find it closed. A gatekeeper appears.]

LINKLE: Ooh, the gate closed? That's so sneaky!

SKULL KID: Did you meet the gatekeeper? I guess you'll have to fight him, if you want through!

[After defeating the gatekeeper.]

SKULL KID: What's with that stupid monster?! It's no use at all...

SKULL KID: If you don't catch me right now, I'll just send more monsters!

LINKLE: Yikes! I don't know how many more monsters I can handle. I gotta move fast!

[After reaching the North Square, Skull Kid teleports again.]

LINKLE: Huh? Where did it go...?

SKULL KID: Let's play hide-and-seek! Check every keep if you want to see it again!

[Skull Kid summons more monsters, who advance to the Allied Base (and its cucco soldiers).]

SKULL KID: Hee hee! See, more monsters! If you think they can be stopped, then just try to stop them!

LINKLE: What? More monsters? Great, that's just what I need... But I won't lose!

[After some time passes, Skull Kid gets ready to summon more monsters.]

SKULL KID: You still haven't found me? What's taking you so long? Do you want more monsters? Is that it?

LINKLE: Stop teasing me! Just come out!

[After capturing a keep that Skull Kid was not hiding in.]

SKULL KID: Hee hee! Not in that keep!

[After defeating the monsters heading for the Allied (Cucco) Base.]

LINKLE: There! I defeated the monsters! Go ahead and show yourself already!

SKULL KID: Ooh, look at you. Big monster slayer. I don't think you're so tough!

[After capturing the West Square, where Skull Kid was hiding.]

SKULL KID: I can't believe how much trouble you're having! Hee hee! Still, I won't give the compass back. Hah!

[Skull Kid teleports to the Fairy Fountain. The Fiary Fountain opens and monsters start pouring out.]

LINKLE: Arghhh! Are you going to run away forever? Hurry up and gimme back my compass!

SKULL KID: Nya-nya! Catch me if you can, even though I bet you CAN'T!

SKULL KID: Look how many monsters are in this keep! I bet they'd enjoy playing with you. Hee hee!

LINKLE: I won't let you get away!

SKULL KID: Even if you catch me, you wouldn't be able to handle me...

[After capturing the Fairy Fountain.]

SKULL KID: Trying to hide in that keep? That won't help...

[Skull Kid teleports to the South Square.]

LINKLE: I've got you now! I know EXACTLY where you are! ...Probably!

[Upon reaching the South Square.]

LINKLE: Hurry up and gimme back my compass!

[Linkle's compass starts glowing very bright.]

LINKLE: Hey! The compass is shining! Uh... What's going on?

SKULL KID: What is this?! Gah, it's so bright!

[After defeating Skull Kid, the battle ends.]

SKULL KID: I'm so sorry! I won't cause any more trouble. Honest! Please forgive me!

LINKLE: Really? Well... OK, then. You're forgiven! Hah!

SKULL KID: ...Good! And next time, I'll do a better job of stealing it! Hee hee!

LINKLE: Hey, now! Don't even joke! No more stealing my compass!

LINKLE: At least I got my compass back. Now, on to Hyrule Castle! Linkle, ho!

TRANSCRIPT SIDE MISSION: CUCCO CHICKS

[Throughout the battle, a total of three Cucco Chicks will spawn, looking for food. If you defend them against monsters long enough for them to reach their feeding grounds, they'll turn into Gold Cuccos and join the fight.]

[First Cucco Chick appears.]

LINKLE: Hello there, little one! Oh, you're so cute. Are you looking for food? Don't you know it's dangerous?

[After escorting the Cucco Chick to the feeding grounds.]

LINKLE: Whoa! It turned gold! That's so cool, but how did it do that?

[Second Cucco Chick appears.]

LINKLE: Hey there, little Cucco. It's kinda dangerous in here... C'mon, let me help you.

[After escorting the Cucco Chick to the feeding grounds.]

LINKLE: Wow! You turned gold! You're all shiny now!

[Third Cucco Chick appears.]

LINKLE: Another little Cucco! Don't worry -- I'll protect you so you can eat.

[After escorting the Cucco Chick to the feeding grounds.]

LINKLE: It turned gold! Guess that means it's full, huh?

TRANSCRIPT ENDING CUTSCENE

[2D Cutscene. Storybook-style drawing accompany the narration.]

NARRATION: Linkle left her village, vowing to restore peace to Hyrule. In her hand she clutched her grandmother's precious compass. But before long, a mischievous imp had stolen the treasured possession. Linkle chased down the impa and tried to retrieve the compass. And then something strange happened... As if in response to her struggle, the compass began emitting a mysterious light. It seemed to be reacting to her! Linkle recovered it, hung it from her neck, and vowed never to lose it again. The compass's light was quite a mystery to her. She didn't know what secret power it might hold. Whatever the case, it had to be a sign of her status as the legendary hero. If she could harness this power, perhaps she would fully realize her destiny and save Hyrule. Her faith renewed, Linkle continued her quest.
