The Sorceress of the Woods Transcript

Note: I am focusing on the dialogue, and as such will not be transcribing the battle objectives and such as they appear in the game. I'm also having a bit of fun with this don't take it too serious.

DRAMATIS PERSONAE

LINK: The legendary hero. Recently acknowledged as such by Impa.

IMPA: General in the Hyrulean Army and personal guard of Princess Zelda.

SHEIK: Recently acquired ally. Attempting to be as suspicious as possible.

LANA: Peppy leader of the troops in Faron Woods. A powerful magician.

PROXI: Fairy. Speaks for Link.

WIZZRO: Remarkably untrustworthy floating robe.

TRANSCRIPT BEGINNING CUTSCENE

Link and his allies were saved from the dangers of the Eldin Caves by a mysterious youth named Sheik. Joined by their new ally, Impa's troops exited the caves and emerged in Faron Woods. There they found a hidden village overrun with monsters. While Link and Impa wanted to continue their search for Zelda, they could not ignore the plight of the villagers. Without hesitation, they sprang into battle.

[Transition to 3D animated cutscene. A battle wages in Faron Woods. Lana rescues a Hyrulean Soldier. Link enters and starts slicing up monsters. Lana stares at him.]

LANA: You...

[Impa and Sheik join Link.]

IMPA: Are you the one leading these warriors?

LANA: Yes I am.

IMPA: You can use magic. Where did you learn your craft?

LANA: Oh, well... I'm a sorceress. You know the one who started this war? Cia? We come from the same magical clan.

IMPA, shocked: Ah, well that explains it... And what does this "Cia" want from Hyrule?

LANA: You really want to know? Well... Help me defend the forest. If you do that, I might tell you.

[Lana smiles mischievously. Impa, Link, and Sheik look to each other with disbelieving expressions. Something draws Lana's attention; she and her soldiers begin to run toward it. Impa, Link, and Sheik follow.]

END TRANSCRIPT BEGINNING CUTSCENE

TRANSCRIPT BATTLE

WIZZRO: Scatter those Hyrulean pests! Exterminate them!

LANA: So that wizard's in charge, huh? I bet if we defeat him, the monsters will leave.

IMPA: Him again... I have a feeling he's going to be a real thron in our sides.

WIZZRO: This'll teach you! Hiya ha ha!

[Deku Babas appear.]

SHEIK: Why is that plant spewing poison into the surrounding area?

LANA: That's a Deku Baba. Unless you can hit it with a sharp, ranged attack, we'll die of poisoning!

IMPA: In that case, we'd better lend a hand.

SHEIK: Poisonous weed... My attacks have no effect. We need a new strategy...

PROXI: If we attack from a distance, we should be able to take it out!

LANA: If I remember correctly, there's a bow located somewhere south of the village!

[After failing to find the bow for a bit.]

PROXI: We still haven't found the bow just yet...

LANA: Oh, I remember! The bow was probably by the big tree in the southwest of the village!

[After getting the bow.]

LANA: That bow should be effective against Deku Babas. Lock on and fire some arrows!

[After defeating a Deku Baba.]

LANA: Phew... Looks like we beat it. Now let's take care of the other Deku Babas!

[After defeating all Deku Babas.]

LANA: That takes care of the poison! What a relief!

[Southern Tree and Western Tree both open. Hyrulean Forces begin retreat to the Deku Tree.]

LANA: Everyone's getting tired... We should retreat to the Deku Tree for a moment!

IMPA: I'll hold off the enemies here while you fall back!

WIZZRO: You dimwits! I won't let you run away so easily!

WIZZRO: Surround the big tree! Attack and destroy them!

LANA: What should we do? The enemy's heading toward the Deku Tree!

HYLIAN CAPTAIN: The Deku Tree is our base! We have to protect it!

[After Lana has reached the Deku Tree.]

WIZZRO: Running... Hiding... In big tree...

[Lana places a chest in the Deku Tree. Gibdos begin advancing toward the Deku Tree.]

LANA: Use this, everybody. I bet it'll come in handy!

SHEIK: I'll handle the enemies marching from the south.

LANA: Let's deal with the enemies coming from the south before we do anything else!

[After opening the chest, finding an ocarina inside, and activating the owl statue in the Deku Tree.]

LANA: Now we should be able to travel back to this statue whenever we want!

[After defeating the Gibdo Forces.]

PROXI: We did it! We pushed the enemy back!

LANA: What a relief... That should give us time to catch our breath, right?

WIZZRO: Enjoy your little success, weasels! My next plan will burn your spirits to ashes! Hiya ha!

[Wizzro sets fire to the Deku Tree.]

HYLIAN CAPTAIN: Whoa! I can see flames! A fire's been started!

LANA: The Deku Tree is on fire! We have to quench the flames somehow!

WIZZRO: Hiya ha! There's no way you'll be able to put out that fire! I'll see you burned to a crisp!

LANA: We can't let the Deku Tree burn! What are we supposed to do?!

PROXI: Wait a minute... I can feel the presence of a Great Fairy! Maybe she can help us!

[Gibdos begin advancing to the Deku Tree.]

WIZZRO: Yes, this is beautiful! Exterminate them!

SHEIK: I feel a powerful energy in the northeast. Could it be the great fairy?

GREAT FAIRY: Quickly, come to my fountain...

[After Gibdos reach the Deku Tree.]

HYLIAN CAPTAIN: The fire is still raging on, and now we've got more problems to deal with?! What do we do?

PROXI: I sense the Great Fiary's power! Get rid of the monsters in the way, and open the doors!

[After defeating the Gibdo in front of the Fairy Fountain, it opens up. A magic circle becomes available for use.

LANA: Oh, noble Great Fiary, we need your strength! Don't leave us to this fire...

WIZZRO: Gruh... These worms are wriggling more than I expected!

[After activating the circle, the Great Fairy appears. She uses her fairies to form storm clouds, and the rain puts out the fire.]

HYLIAN CAPTAIN: The fires are dying out! Yeah! We can continue fighting!

[Morale improves.]

LANA: Phew, that was a close one... Great Fairy, we thank you!

WIZZRO: Kah?! Who let them talk to the Great Fairy?! That plan was PERFECT!

PROXI: But... how could anyone bring themselves to set fire to the Great Deku Tree...?

IMPA: He must know where the princess is! I'll just have to beat the infromation out of him!

[While fighting Wizzro, he leaves the battlefield before he can be defeated.]

WIZZRO: Ooh... What if I had IT kill them...? Hiya ha ha! That's so naughty! I love it!

PROXI: No! The wizard got away!

IMPA: Hnn--! Too fast!

[Keep Saboteurs appear. Gohma appears.]

IMPA: That's no normal enemy! Be on guard!

SHEIK: Every monster has a weakness. We just have to find this one's...

LANA: What if we aim at that huge eye? I'm not expert, bu an arrow to its eye should really hurt it!

[While fighting Gohma, it jumps away and lands in the Deku Tree.]

LANA: Oh gosh! The monster's in the Deku Tree! Quick, use the ocarina to warp right there!

HYLIAN CAPTAIN: M-monster! Somebody, help!

[Gohma once again jumps away before it can be killed.]

LANA: The creature got away...?

IMPA: The monster is still alive. We'll have to change that.

[After defeating all Keep Saboteurs.]

LANA: Now all I have to do is take care of that monster!

[After defeating Gohma, the battle ends.]

PROXI: Amazing! We took down that huge... THING!

LANA: Great job, everyone! That's a solid win for us!

TRANSCRIPT ENDING CUTSCENE

[3D animated cutscene. Impa walks up to Link, looking despondent.]

IMPA: I hoped Zelda would be here... Apparently that hope was in vain.

[Lana heals a soldier with magic. She spots Link and Impa and looks over at them.]

IMPA: Where could she be? Is she save? May the goddesses protect her...

[Link looks down, angry. Camera pans to Lana, who puts a hand to her chest and looks down with a conflicted expression. 3D cutscene ends.

[2D Cutscene starts. Storybook drawings accompany the narration, showing Cia observing Hyrule's history.]

NARRATION: For generations, Hyruleans have told the tale of the War Across the Ages. This is how it begins... Deep in the forests, far from mortal eyes, a great sorceress watched over the balance of the Triforce. Through her magic, she could see across ages, reading the fates of all who lived, but never interfering. That is, until a unique soul caught her attention.

[Link appears. Cia looks at him in wonder.]

NARRATION:The soul of the hero of legend, eternally reborn when Hyrule's need is greatest. Through her powers, the sorceress should have seen the hero was bound to another. Instead, she saw only a soul that was unlike any she had known.

[Zelda appears next to Link in the storybook cutscenes. Link and Zelda both vanish, the focus returns to Cia, who cries.]

NARRATION: And while the sorceress was preoccupied, a fragment of darkness, locked in its prison, saw an opportunity.

[Dark smoke forms into Dark Beast Ganon before Cia. It attacks her. Light glows in her chest, and is then expelled. Cia's sprite turns dark.]

NARRATION: The whispering darkness wormed its way into her heart. It pushed the light away, and warped her curiosity into a desperate desire to possess the legendary hero's soul. Of course, this evil had its own desires. To use the Triforce to resurrect itself and conquer Hyrule once again.

[Chains appear around Cia's form. She opens the Gate of Souls and stands before the monsters it summons, ominously.]

NARRATION: Having pushed the light from her heart, the darkness compelled her to open the Gate of Souls, the doorway of time itself. Monsters from across the ages poured through the gate, bringing ruin to the land of Hyrule once more.
