The Water Temple Transcript

Note: I am focusing on the dialogue, and as such will not be transcribing the battle objectives and such as they appear in the game. I'm also having a bit of fun with this don't take it too serious.

DRAMATIS PERSONAE

IMPA: General in the Hyrulean Army, Zelda's personal guard, and newly crowned Champion Oblivious.

SHEIK: Seriously, come on, why are you still doing this.

DARUNIA: Goron Chief.

RUTO: Zora Princess.

ZELDA: Desaturated for no reason in particular, I'm sure.

WIZZRO: Cursed ring and minion of Cia.

TRANSCRIPT BEGINNING CUTSCENE

NARRATION: At the fairy's request, Impa had fought her way to the summit of Death Mountain to rescue Princess Ruto. There she subdued the Goron chieftain, Darunia, who had temporarily lost his senses. Upon freeing Princess Ruto, however, Impa was shocked to learn the reason for the conflict between the Zora and Goron people. The ancient Water Temple was teeming with monsters that poured from the Gate of Souls. What's more, the monsters were apparently led by Princess Zelda herself! Hoping to make sense of this disturbing revelation... Impa and her newfound allies journeyed to Lake Hylia. When they arrived, they were greeted by a Zelda seemingly consumed by evil...

TRANSCRIPT BATTLE

ZELDA: Hm. Invaders. Someone destroy them for me.

IMPA: Princess Zelda--! No, she would never attack us of her own free will...

DARUNIA: Let's take care of these enemies first. Then we can smash the rest from the north!

[Mission: Jump from the frozen waterfall cliff and attack from the rear. Zelda's Forces attack Princess Ruto.]

RUTO: He-ey there! Help me!

IMPA: Princess Ruto is the only one who knows how to get into the temple. Keep her safe!

[After encountering Zelda's Forces and losing the element of surprise.]

ZELDA: A frontal assault? Such a foolish attempt...

ZELDA: Hyrulean soldiers! Cease fighting for the unworthy, and follow my royal command!

[Morale lowers.]

GORON CAPTAIN: Our morale is really hurting...

IMPA: First Darunia, and now this? This is obviously not the real Princess Zelda!

SHEIK: We must confront her. If we find her, I'm certain we will also find the Gate of Souls.

[After rescuing Ruto.]

RUTO: The only way into the Water Temple requires we open the floodgates. Let's hurry.

ZELDA: Hear me, soldiers of Hyrule! Flee from this temple! Drop your weapons, and turn back!

[Morale lowers. Darunia is attacked.]

IMPA: Don't be deceived! This is not our Zelda! Anything she says will be a lie!

DARUNIA: The enemy is coming this way!

IMPA: I'll go support our allies! You take the floodgates!

[After escorting Ruto to the Lakeside Keep.]

RUTO: Fantastic job, though it appears that someone still needs our help regarding those floodgates!

[After rescuing Darunia.]

DARUNIA: Phew, close call! Thanks for the assist! We're all clear here!

[After opening the floodgates.]

RUTO: The floodgates are open! Now we should be able to enter the Water Temple.

DARUNIA: Great! Why don't we pour into the Water Temple? Get it? Pour? Ha! ...Water puns!

IMPA: If someone is masquerading as Zelda, I will expose and eliminate her.

RUTO: We could always use the Lens of Truth... A hero left it in the temple some time ago!

RUTO: I'll go underwater and find the Lens of Truth. We can meet back up later.

[Ruto temporarily retreats from the battlefield. Darunia advances to the entrance of the Water Temple.]

DARUNIA: We'll go on ahead!

[Ruto reappears in the Central Hall.]

RUTO, thinking: Getting in was easy. Now I just need to find the Lens of Truth itself...

Ruto, thinking: Here it is! The Lens of Truth! This is exactly what we need...

[Zelda closes the Central Hall, trapping Ruto.]

RUTO: Oh, of course. I feared they were planning to trap me in here, and they have.

RUTO: Go and open the floodgates inside the temple! Doing that should free me!

RUTO: You have to seek out all the keeps with floodgate switches. Understand?

IMPA: I'll search the east side of the temple. You search the west!

ZELDA: I have captured your ally! If you want her to remain safe, lay down your weapons!

[Morale lowers.]

IMPA: What kind of coward takes hostages... You insult Princess Zelda's very name!

[After opening one of the floodgates.]

DARUNIA: Hey, the water started to recede when we opened that floodgate!

RUTO: The water isn't completely drained yet! Open the other floodgate! Hurry!

[Assault troops appear and begin advancing toward Darunia.]

ZELDA: Now... punish the insolent fools in front of the temple!

IMPA: No... We van't let them get outside the temple! Split up and stop them!

[After opening both floodgates.]

RUTO: You did it! Finally, I can get out of here!

DARUNIA: All right! You go help Ruto!

[After saving Ruto and obtaining the Lens of Truth]

RUTO: I'm... getting tired... I'll leave the rest to you. Good luck!

[Ruto leaves the battlefield. The Lens of Truth reveals a hidden passageway.]

DARUNIA: What happened?! The wall disappeared, and then a passage opened up!

ZELDA: I have no idea how you broke my spell... But no matter. You leave me no recourse.

ZELDA: My loyal servant, King Dodongo! Come forth! Burn these fools to the bone!

[King Dodongo appears. Ruto reappears to aid Darunia.]

RUTO: There is no victory unless I help. It's just a little fire-breathing lizard. I can handle it!

IMPA: Only a few enemy monsters remain. Let's defeat them and rout the imposter's forces!

SHEIK: We must join our efforts together to drive off that beast.

[After defeating Zelda, the battle ends.]

END TRANSCRIPT BATTLE

TRANSCRIPT ENDING CUTSCENE

[3D Animated cutscene. Sheik and Impa confront Desaturated Zelda. Sheik holds up the Lens of Truth, revealing Zelda to have been Wizzro in disguise.]

WIZZRO: How did you see through my disguise?

[Sheik hands Impa the Lens of Truth.]

SHEIK: You can't be Zelda. Because...

[Sheik does a magical girl twirl, complete with bright pink magic, and transforms into Zelda.]

ZELDA: I am Zelda!

IMPA, happy: Princess! You're alive!

ZELDA: Impa, forgive me for not telling you.

[Impa and Zelda turn toward Wizzro, who backs up and then melts into the floor to escape. Impa and Zelda then step toward the Gate of Souls.]

ZELDA: Let us close this gate together.

[Impa nods. Impa and Zelda hold out their hands, casting a light that closes the Gate of Souls.]
